“If You Want Something You Gotta Get It – Period”

I hadn’t realised how much you can actually learn from some blockbuster movies – there are loads of them out there and not so long ago I posted about “Pay It Forward”.

Well last Sunday night on good old terrestrial TV they were showing “The Persuit Of Happyness”.

It’s a true story about a man’s journey through life to get the things he truly dreamed of and deeply believed in.

He defied all sorts. He lost his apartment, his wife, couldn’t sell a single thing that he had put all his savings into. It all looked pretty grim for him. He would stay overnight in shelters with his son to get him through an apprenticeship that wouldn’t pay a cent in salary and even then he wasn’t guarenteed a job in the end.

When the chips are that far down, the only thing he can do is start finding and thinking through ways for him to get back up. He works through a plan.

There is a great scene of him and his son on the basketball court. He realises what he has just said to his son and so corrects himself…

“Don’t ever let anyone tell you you can’t do something. If you’ve got a dream you have got to protect it.”

“People who can’t do something themselves will tell you you can’t do it”.

”If you want something you gotta get it – period”.

The huge number of sacrifices this guy makes to obtain his dream is extraordinary. It is selfishness to be perfectly honest. But it’s what has to be done to go and get what he wanted. These things do not and will not come easy.

Why? well if it did, what would you learn about it? What value would you put on the thing you got if it didn’t take much to get it?

If you have to make the sacrifices he did then you would truly value every single cent that came in through the door. It’s maybe not what you want to hear, but it’s true.

How many people or stories have you heard that have won the lottery and maintained their wealth? Do you think they learned how to keep hold of it? Do you think they understand the true value of the money?

2 valuable lessons I took away from this film

  1. Persistence pays off when it’s for the right reasons
  2. Happiness must be persued; it is not ours to have, no matter what.
  3. I want to leave you with a little story his son tells in the movie…

    ==========================

This man is drowning. A boat comes by and asks if he needs any help.

“No thanks, God will save me”. The boat disappears over the horizon leaving the man behind.

Another boat comes by a little later on and notices his struggle and also asks if he needed any help.

“No thanks, God will save me” and so the second boat goes on it’s way leaving the man struggling.

Sadly the man does eventually drown and goes to heaven. Once he got there he asks God

“Why didn’t you save me when I was drowning?” and God replies “I sent you 2 boats didn’t I?”

    ==========================

Always look for the learning in everything you do; the good, the bad and the things that don’t work out as you had expected.

    Ask yourself:

“What can I learn from this not working?”

“What else is there for me to learn?”

    Until next time,

    Antonia

7 Reasons Not To Do It

I have found everywhere I look there are all sorts of reasons not to get started on a project, a new direction, a new beginning.

I reckon there are some real beasts in amongst this list and it’s one sure fire way to stay exactly where you are and not change a thing…

1. It’s too hard

There are so many avenues to persue and not knowing what you really wan to persue makes it even easier not to do something!

Where do you actually begin? That’s where you really need to make a plan and make it bite sized and achievable. It’ll only be very easy to give up if it feels like you are climbing Everest and getting nowhere fast.

Always remember to look at how far you have gone. If you have set goals and achieved them, look back at those you have completed. It will inspire you to continue.

2. It’s too expensive

Each and every attempt you try to find the right information it will cost you thousands of dollars.  You are probably thinking “Who has that kind of money to invest in something that may not even work?”. Trust me when I say you won’t get it right every time and every dollar spent is towards your education and will have an effect on any future decsiions you make. No one can take away what is in between your ears and what you learn. The best investment you ever make will be in your education. Life is a non stop learning experience!

If you are still not sure look for the testimonials from the real people and find out if they have actually done what it says on the tin! Simple really and it’s the proof it works.

3. I don’t know what to do

Often you will be put off as you don’t know what to do. A good indicator is to do something that you know you will enjoy – it will ensure you kee going. You also want to do something you know people will want. There is no point trying to sell something to people if they don’t need it.

4. I don’t know how to do it

It’s hard to find that step by step guide, the map and the compass to guide you through all the confusion. Many people give you half the answer. There are some clever people out there that instead of giving you the answers, you actually have to go out and do it yourself. What chance have you got to learn anything REAL is something is done for you and served on a platter?

Be prepared to roll your sleeves up and do some of the hard yarns. Get your hands dirty. There is merit in understanding the full process ofdoing  something for yourself. It also makes it simpler to leverage in the future.

5. I’m not good enough

This is a really tough one. There will always be that little voice in you that tells you “What makes you the expert?”.  Well to be perfectly honest, you are already making moves to learn something new. Already you are a mile ahead of the pack. Take a look around at those closest to you. What are they actively doing to change there circumstances?

Remember to source your information carefully. Your uncle Tom is not probably the best person to get financial and real estate advice.

6. Everyone will laugh at me

Interestingly this is something I was talking about just the other day to an acquaintence. If you were to walk into a room, who do you think the other people are thinking about? I can tell you now, they are NOT thinking about you. It’s only you who is worried about you. You may be given the opportunity by someone to be a fleeting thought in there head. Everyone else in that room is only thinking about themselves and how they are being perceived by others. When I remember that, my whole perspective and energy shifts. Try it. At least you have put yourself out there — it’ll be more than the average person.

And finally the BIGGEST reason not to do something…

7. Fear

In fact it’s the underlying reason for all of the above. It’s a tough one to admit to yourself, however there are many many ways to confront and over come it. Normally the best thing to do is TAKE ACTION. No matter how small, as long as you take action every day towards the place you want to be, you will be 7 steps further towards it by the end of the week. Add it all up and by the end of the month, 30 steps closer. You get my drift.

I really do hope that something in this list strikes you because I have been in exactly your shoes, asking myself all those questions and more. And yet I keep getting back up and ploughing on as I know there is a great life to live out there and it’s not doing the things I was doing 2 years ago in the office job.

I have spent a lot of my time and my money finding ways in which I could get out the rut I was in. I started down one avenue, almost lost everything and had to make an about turn, completely changing plans, directions and focus. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, however the person I have become in the meantime is determined and tenacious.

I want you to really understand what you are capable of when you set your mind to it.

“Embrace Your True Potential” — Nelson Mandela.

I wish you all the best in your endeavours whatever they may be. It an awesome journey, sometime rocky, sometimes smooth sailing. I cannot stress to you how worth it it all becomes.

To your continued success,

Antonia

Synchronicity: What Does It All Mean? And Why You Need To Take A Break

Have you ever felt as if you were on a roll?
Did you find things you were doing were only leading to even more and exciting opportunities?
Have you felt as if the world was coming to meet you?

It’s you ‘at one’ – for want of a better word – with the world.

I have been really fortunate recently (and I am so so grateful for it) that this appears to be happening to me!

Last week my husband and I came back from a lovely break in Europe visiting family, going to a wedding and generally having a very relaxing time. Yep jet lag played with our body clocks like you wouldn’t believe, but we just saw it as a time to get things done ( admittedly not much was done whilst we were away!).

I spent one morning just scribbling away, getting all the things to do out of my head. Once I did that I formulated a plan as to how to get them all done. In the meantime, a new plan was hatching and soon became apparent. I started seeing the woods for the trees.

A few days later I spoke to my business mentor and that skyrocketed some of the stuff I was planning out. I started scribbling a new marketing campaign. Feeling like I was on this massive roll, building extraordinary momentum, an email arrived.

We both sat and watched the video that was with it and took action accordingly. We both knew in our souls that what we were doing was going to just kick our businesses out of the ball park.

In amongst of all of this activity we received an offer on one of our properties and we’ve accepted it. Negotiated shorter settlement and it’s all ticking along.

Just yesterday I had another great conversation with my mentor and I know that working with him is going to be paid over and over in multiples. I also know that in the longer term, I will be able to pay it forward and really help other people.

I don’t want you thinking for a second that this happens everyday. In fact just last month I felt as if I was wading through a swamp and it was all too hard. That’s really why you haven’t heard from me in a while.

I have to be honest, somethings that I planned and paid for months ago, without really knowing it turned out to be perfectly timed. I have needed to get lost in the maze in order to see what is really out there.

The one thing I can tell you is opportunities like this don’t happen all the time, however you can make them happen more often. I suggest you grab them when you can providing it will be something that aides your future growth and progress. I am NOT telling you to just leap out into the unknown dropping everything for the shiney new object that has appeared on your doorstep. You will only REALLY know if you can feel it is the right thing to do.

All of this – the momentum, the being on a roll and seeing all these opportunities in front of you – it’s called Synchronicity. And it is an awesome feeling.

If you are feeling swampish like I was, then take a break from it, clear your head, don’t think about it and come back with renewed and refreshed vigour. It will pay you in dividends.

I know what I am telling you isn’t new, it may just be that other perspective you need right now.

If you want to know more about any of this then here’s a link to the person that taught me most of what I know www.maverickmarketingandmindset.com

To your continued success (and I would love to hear about them!).

Honour Your Calling

During my lunch breaks I admit I sit down and put on the Oprah Winfrey show. I feel there is always a possibility I will learn something from her or her guests.

She chooses her words very wisely (or at least the person who writes for the teleprompter does!) and I like that about her. The show I caught the other day was her talking to a few people about them living their purpose; finding the real reason we are here living the lives we have.

Like her, I believe we are all put on this earth for a greater reason that just living in a job or at home, driving an okay car and having just enough to pay for the rent or mortgage each month.

There is something deep within each of us that calls us to do something greater than what you are doing right now. Rather than focussing on the immediate; you, your family, your friends, think further afield. Open your mind to what it could be.

Start asking yourself “What is my purpose?”

I know what you may be thinking and that is it’s ridiculous I couldn’t just think something up? There is no way.

You’ll never know what you don’t try. Really start asking what it is you could do with your life that you really passionately believe in, something that could be of value to someone or something other than yourself. You won’t get the answer over night or rather you are very lucky if you do.

For 6 months, my mentor did exactly that – every day for 6 months he asked “What is my purpose?” and one day it felt like it came to him out of the blue.

“To Empower Myself And Others”

I find it remarkable that something like that can literally ‘pop’ into you head. If you truly want to know the answer to the question you ask each day, your subconscious will work on it each day and help you find the answer. It’s just like the names of actors in films that you can never remember the name of. Hours later it will just come from nowhere – bam! you have the actors name you were thinking of.

There was this guest on this particular show telling her story; she was on the New York subway when an idea of ‘Pyjama Program’ came to her. From that moment she started literally a movement to get hold of new pairs of pyjamas for all the children in foster care that she look after; many of these children didn’t even know what pyjamas were!

Listening to that story and all the other guests stories makes me feel that you are capable of ANYTHING when you realise the simplicity your actions you take can make a difference.

What is your vision? Your purpose? Your calling?

Whatever it is you have an obligation to yourself and to those you can help to honour it.

Believe you can do it – you’ll be amazed what you have in your power to change for the better.
